Social Studies

There are 7 billion people in the world!!!  That’s a lot of people to know and understand and that’s why Social Studies is an important subject for our 6th and 7th grade students.  Social Studies is an essential component in the development of middle school students, as they grow to become active citizens in our society.  It allows students to understand people from other cultures, their beliefs and practices and how people have to adapt or modify their environment in order to survive, but more importantly, it teaches students tolerance and acceptance.  It is a big world!!!  The better we understand the people that live here, the better possibilities of a peaceful world.

Along with understanding other people, it is just as important to understand US.  Our 8th graders will do just that as they learn about the history of the United States.  In becoming a productive citizen in our society, students will learn how the United States developed, the fight for Independence, the organization of the U.S. government, their rights as citizens of the United States and the struggles of slavery.  This course will be a springboard, for 8th graders, as they move on to high school to take U.S. Government.
