Banned Books Week

September 27–October 4, 2008

Closing Books Closes Possibilities! Celebrate the freedom to READ and checkout a challenged book; see what all the fuss is about! Some of our shelves most beloved tales appear on the very long list of forbidden books. The only thing dangerous about books, is not reading them. We need to protect our Intellectual Freedom and always remember that Free People Read Freely!

Teen READ Week!

Read All About It! In celebration of Teen Read Week, the library will also host a school book fair and open checkout for students October 13-16,2008! The goal is to expose a variety of books to students that they may purchase or checkout for free in order to promote reading for enjoyment! This year's theme is Books with Bite! Students will visit the book fair and library with their Language Arts teacher. Everyone will receive a "books with bite" bookmark.

The Bird with the Word!

Spread the Word! Learn new words to improve your vocabulary. Schmeagle the Eagle, the school library mascot, brings you the word of the week. Click on Schmeagle's picture to read this week's word. If you wish to view episodes of The Bird with the Word please visit Schmeagle's video album on Teacher Tube!

Friends Forever! Schmeagle's sister is doing very well at our Sister School in Moka City, Japan. Our Japanese friends and colleagues are enjoying their new "mascoto". We would like to say Arigatou Gozaimasu to the all Yamazaki students and faculty for a very memorable visit to the Sudbrook Library!

Library Love

We LOVE our library! Please check out our video that was accepted by the American Library Association's You Tube page ilovelibraries.org under Careers in Libraries and see why the Sudbrook Library is "literally the coolest place in the school!"

Research Models

Students Made Reading A Hobbit! Grade 6 students conducted Creature_Research by using an Online Research Model to learn more about Tolkien's characters and have a better understanding of the novel The Fellowship of the Ring. Guidebooks on each character were created. The students did such a fabulous job that a literacy event was planned for our school community and their families. Click here to view a short documentary of the project.

Research_Models are lessons conducted with the Library Media Specialist and Content Area Teacher. These self-guided online lessons promote inquiry-based learning and allow students to research using a variety of electronic and print resources in the library.

Information Databases

For Your Information... Please take advantage of the BCPS_Databases. The databases provide reliable educational resources exclusively for Baltimore County students. Please stop by the library if you need an additional handout with the user names and passwords to access the databases from HOME.
